In early 2025 I decided it was time I had a go at applying for the the Royal Photographic Society's 'Licenciate' distinction. This involved submitting a panel of ten images a that demonstrate good technical quality, creative ability, and a variety of photographic skills. These skills include Technical (camera work), Artistic (visual awareness), Visual Narrative (intent, creativity and empathy), and Presentation (balance and cohesion of the portfolio). These are then assessed independently by three assessors. The submission also has to include a Presentation Layout, or hanging plan, showing the arrangement of how your images are to be viewed. In late February I had a very useful one to one on Zoom with an RPS Fellow and Distinction Assessor, showing him my initial ideas. This boosted my confidence and showed that I was heading in the right direction. In late March I put my submission in, and in early May I heard that I had been successful and could now put LRPS after my name.
